Add at least 30 words and 2 sentences for an estimate. These formulas use approximate English syllable counts, not a definitive measure of writing quality.

How counting works & keyboard shortcuts

Formatting: Select text for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, or case changes. Bullets, numbering, headings, indentation, and alignment apply to the selected or current paragraphs. Enter continues a list; Enter on an empty list item exits it. Use Shift + Enter for a soft line break. With no selection, case changes and Clear styles apply to the whole document. Clear styles removes inline styling, not lists or headings.

Copy includes rich formatting when the browser permits it. Download TXT keeps readable bullet/number prefixes but not bold or headings; HTML preserves formatting. Drafts and printouts preserve formatting. Pasted HTML is cleaned locally: scripts, images, external resources, links, and unsupported styling are discarded.

Statistics analyze the actual text, excluding automatic bullet and number markers. Paragraph blocks are separated by blank lines for analysis; list items and plain-text line blocks use single newlines.

Words are Unicode letter or number sequences. Extra whitespace and standalone punctuation do not add words. Contractions and hyphenated words stay together. Supported browsers use language-aware segmentation for Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Lao, Khmer, and Myanmar text; other browsers use a basic fallback. Counts may differ from a word processor.

Characters count Unicode code points, including line breaks, rather than visual glyphs. “Without spaces” excludes all whitespace. Paragraphs are blocks separated by blank lines. Lines count explicit line breaks, not visual wrapping. Spaces counts ordinary spaces only. Numbers includes decimal and grouped numeric sequences.

Sentence boundaries, English syllables, readability, and reading/speaking times are estimates. Custom speeds accept 1–2,000 words per minute. Readability uses words containing letters and requires at least 30 words and 2 sentences; it is not a language detector.

While editing, use Ctrl/Cmd + A to select, Ctrl/Cmd + C to copy, Ctrl/Cmd + V to paste, Ctrl/Cmd + X to cut, Ctrl/Cmd + Z to undo, and Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z or Ctrl + Y to redo. Native browser shortcuts are never intercepted.

Draft saving is optional and uses this browser's local storage. Anyone with access to this browser profile may access a saved draft. Turn it off or clear your text to remove the stored draft. Your theme preference is remembered separately. Browser spellchecking is off to avoid sending text to cloud-enhanced spelling services.
